We have designed our mental health facility to deliver care in the least restrictive manner. This allows patients to feel relaxed and comfortable, with patient safety our first priority.

We also have an active Consumer and Carer Committee, that plays a key role in improving the experiences and care we provide our patients.

Patients we treat

We accept patients with private health insurance and uninsured self-funded patients. We also welcome eligible Australian Defence Force personnel, veterans' and war widows under our Tier 1 provider relationship with the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA).

We cater for patients between 18 and 70 years of age. Other patients can be admitted but we recommend a review in the consulting suites by one of the Psychiatrists to ensure the hospital can meet their needs.

As an alternative to inpatient admission, patients aged between 16 and 18 years may be referred to the Adolescent Day Programs.

Consulting suites

Our Marian Centre private consulting suites have a team of more than 12 experienced Psychiatrists conveniently located in close proximity to the hospital. The team has a wide range of special areas of interest and provide outpatient appointments.

Patients at Marian Centre are admitted under the care of their Treating Psychiatrist. All psychiatrists who see patients in these suites have full admitting rights to the hospital.

Research

Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) asserts that making clinical decisions based on best evidence, either from the research literature or clinical expertise, improves the quality of care and the patient’s quality of life.

Research and evaluation form an integral part of our commitment to providing top quality care. By engaging in research, we seek to improve understanding of the factors that maintain mental health problems. The Marian Centre researches initiatives that are designed not only to improve service delivery within the hospital, but also contribute nationally and internationally to psychiatry and psychology knowledge.
